Hi, I'm Chris 👋I’m a personal trainer, performance coach, and professional drummer of 20+ years, currently residing at Hamilton in London’s West End.In 2023, I suffered two traumatic brain injuries that fundamentally changed how I understood the relationship between a musician’s body, their mind, and their ability to perform.Performance Conditioning was born out of these realisations.I hold multiple qualifications in personal training, exercise science, and strength and conditioning, and have spent the last few years studying the science of human performance, injury prevention, mental conditioning, neuroscience, and active recovery as it applies to the unique demands musicians face.I now work with musicians around the world through my 1-1 coaching and online programmes across a wide array of areas from remote tour support to injury rehabilitation, and performance optimisation to bespoke personal training.

If you're a busy, working musician (or aspiring to be), you may be feeling like your career is moving horizontally, not vertically. You still practise, but the returns are diminishing. The problem is no longer technical competence. It's the reliability and durability required to move up the career ladder and sustain the career you've worked this hard to build. This mindset shift is a million miles from what you were taught at music school. What's missing is the layer beneath the craft...Your technical skill sits at the top.But beneath it, there's a whole world to discover. This newsletter exists to help you see that world in full Technicolor through The Three Pillars Of Performance Conditioning:TRAIN: Build the physical capacity to have total control over your instrument and avoid pain and injuries that stop you from working. This is the layer that builds your physical capacity so you don’t need to spend money reactively.PERFORM: Close the gap between the practice room and the stage with mental conditioning principles pioneered in the world of elite sport.RECOVER: Acquire the skills to offset the impact of training and performance through active recovery. Here, you will learn the world of restoration beyond just “rest”.
